Melodies for a father by Dennis Okyere Brako
Unlike the many
songs of failed fatherhood
My melodies
are legacies inked beyond neighborhoods
Composed in
gratitude and admiration for a father
Who nurtured
an empire and pushed its frontiers further
From the
pages of time, you have been our torchbearer
Through the
thick and brambles you pressed ever
We are awed
for your sacrifices we cannot fathom
Why you shelved
your dreams for us to the very bottom!
In the
difficult valley, you forged an impossible door
Like Old
Moses you led us on the dry red sea floor
From the scorching
furnace you forged the conquering sword
And wrote boldly
in sweat on the sheets of our memory core
There may be
no parades, no monuments and fame
Yet much delight
overflows when we hear your name
It will be
easy for you to write yourself off with worry
But we are
your empire and signifies your glory
Our hearts full
of gratitude as we honor you, father
Your protective
shepherd’s rod that led us to the still waters
May you think
yourself a success and you’re not wrong
For we are the notes and tunes of your success
