Opportunity by Berton Braley

Opportunity by Berton Braley

With doubt and dismay you are smitten
You think there's no chance for you, son?
Why, the best books haven't been written
The best race hasn't been run,

The best score hasn't been made yet,
The best song hasn't been sung,
The best tune hasn't been played yet,
Cheer up, for the world is young!

No chance? Why the world is just eager
For things that you ought to create.
Its store of true wealth is still meager
Its needs are incessant and great,

It yearns for more power and beauty
More laughter and love and romance,
More loyalty, labor and duty,
No chance--why there's nothing but chance!

For the best verse hasn't been rhymed yet,
The best house hasn't been planned,
The highest peak hasn't been climbed yet,
The mightiest rivers aren't spanned,

Don't worry and fret, faint hearted,
The chances have just begun,
For the Best jobs haven't been started,
The Best work hasn't been done.

Look to yourself by Terry Hopkins

Look to yourself by Terry Hopkins

When brightness is fading and the darkness appears,
hope is all gone and nothing is clear,
the answers' are inside to help you grow strong,
so look to yourself and you'll never go wrong.

When life seems a struggle and sadness takes place,
the smile that once shone now a frown on your face,
tears falling like rain while heartache takes hold,
just look to yourself and you'll never grow cold.

when people are judging and not lending a hand,
criticizing your nature because they don’t understand,
just take a deep breath and come back with a smile,
when you look to yourself you can run any mile.

when negative energies are pushed onto you,
you've lost who you are, positive feelings are few,
dispel it with love and your strength deep within,
if you look to yourself you'll be sure to win.

so always remember when you lose your way,
confusion sets in and peace has now strayed,
to look to yourself and hear that true voice,
its there if you listen to help make a choice,

just waiting to lift you and fill you with love,
a positive glow from our friends up above.
So know in your heart that your never alone,
just turn to the light, the place I call home

Lighten Up Today by Dave Roberts

Lighten Up Today by Dave Roberts

When you're going through life's valleys,
And you think there's no way out,
You're not the first to feel this way.
There's hope, without a doubt.

It was easier many years ago,
Thought life would stay that way,
But now you feel like crap,
And it seems it's here to stay.

Your friends have tried to help,
But you tell them it's no use,
You think one has it in for you,
It seems you can't get loose.

Set the problem aside today,
Have fun and take a break,
You have no idea until you try it,
What a difference it can make.

So your trouble didn't vanish,
What time you were away,
But it sometimes makes it easier,
And can help you through the day.

If you feel like giving up,
How will you ever Know,
If you had diverted your attention,
Learned what God wants you to know.

He wants you to be blessed, He does.
He loves you till it hurts.
He's cared about you many years,
Since you were a little squirt.

If the devil tries to scare you,
You know he's telling tales.
Jesus defeated him completely,
The day he got those nails.

Whatever you are going through,
Keep a song playing in your heart,
And give thanks to God above,
You don't push a shopping cart.

Use a little humor today,
It makes things seem much lighter,
And I'm hoping that you real soon,
Will feel a whole lot brighter.

I can…I cannot by Medard laz

I can…I cannot by Medard laz

I gave you life..
But I cannot live it for you.
I can teach you things,
But I cannot make you learn.

I can give you directions,
But I cannot always be there to lead you.
I can allow you freedom,
But I cannot account for it.

I can take you to church,
But I cannot make you believe.
I can teach you right from wrong,
But I cannot always decide for you.

I can buy you beautiful clothes,
But I cannot make you lovely inside.
I can offer you advice,
But I cannot accept for you.

I can give you love,
But I cannot force it upon you.
I can teach you to be a friend,
But I cannot make you one.

I can teach you to share,
But I cannot make you unselfish.
I can teach you respect,
But I can't force you to show honor.

I can grieve about your report card,
But I cannot doubt your teachers.
I can advise you about friends,
But I cannot choose them for you.

I can teach you about sex,
But I cannot keep you pure.
I can tell you the facts of life,
But I can't build your reputation.

I can tell you about drink,
But I can't say NO for you.
I can warn you about drugs,
But I can't prevent you from using them.

I can tell you about lofty goals,
But I can't achieve them for you.
I can let you baby-sit,
But I can't be responsible for your actions.

I can teach you kindness,
But I can't force you to be gracious.
I can warn you about sins,
But I can't make you morals.

I can love you as a child,
But I can't place you in God's family.
I can pray for you,
But I cannot make you walk with God.

Keep On Smiling by Alexander Skiathitis

Keep On Smiling by Alexander Skiathitis

If at times you feel you want to cry.
And life seems such a trial.
Above the clouds there's a bright blue sky
So make your tears a smile.

As you travel on life's way
With its many ups and downs
Remember it's quite true to say
One smile is worth a dozen frowns.

Among the worlds expensive things
A smile is very cheap
And when you give a smile away,
You get one back to keep.

Happiness comes at times to all
But sadness comes unbidden
And sometimes a few tears must fall
Among the laughter hidden.

So when friends have sadness on their face
And troubles round them piled
The world will seem a better place
And all because you smiled.
